Abstract:

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are tiny RNA molecules that are non-coding and single-stranded.They consist of ۲۱ to ۲۵ nucleotides in length. These miRNAs play a crucial role in geneexpression regulation through their ability to bind to imperfect complementary siteslocated in the ۳۰ untranslated regions (۳۰ UTRs) of their mRNA targets [۱]. Extensivebioinformatics studies have indicated that a single miRNA has the capacity to bind tomultiple mRNA targets. Consequently, even a slight modification in the expression of a particular miRNA can potentially lead to significant pathological and physiological consequences.Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) represents a diverse collection of leukemias characterized by the clonal alteration of hematopoietic precursors, which occurs due to the acquisition of chromosomal rearrangements and multiple gene mutations (۱). AML is a condition that affects the bone marrow, characterized by a disorder of hematopoietic stem cells resulting from genetic changes in blood cell precursors, leading to excessive production of neoplastic clonal myeloid stem cells. Although there may be instances where manifestations occur outside of the bone marrow, such as myeloid sarcomas or leukemia cutis, the underlying cause of the disease lies in abnormalities in the production of hematologic cells. While a small subset of cases can be attributed to factors like previous chemotherapy or specific chemical exposures, the majority of cases are a result of genetic alterations, either through chromosomal abnormalities or isolated gene mutations, with no clearly defined causative agents (۲).
