Abstract:
Background & Aims: children and adolescents can use their maximum of mental capacity and potential capabilities, if they benefit from a positive attitude towards their surrounding environment and a strong incentive for being active in the community. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship of social anxiety including social phobia, social interaction and maladaptive behavior with self-concept among fifthgrade female students in Jahrom /Iran. Methods: In this correlation study, from ۸۱۰ fifth-grade female students in Jahrom city, ۱۵۳ female students were selected by single step cluster random sampling. Then, they investigated using Social Anxiety Questionnaire and Tennessee Self-concept Questionnaire. Results: Correlation and regression analysis showed significant reverse relationship between social phobia and self-concept. There was also significant positive correlation between social interaction and self-concept. Maladaptive behavior was the best predictor of self- concept among other variables of social anxiety. Conclusion: Social phobia and maladaptive behavior can predict self-concept well but the best predictor of self- concept among components of social anxiety is maladaptive behavior.
