Abstract:
Pathogenic bacteria were isolated from ۱۰۶ diarrhoeal patients(۲۷.۵۳℅), out of ۳۸۵ children under the age of five admitted to pediatric clinics and departments in Kerman, during June to March ۱۹۹۲. Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli( EPEC) was the most common cause of bacterial diarrhea (۴۹℅) followed by sh.flexneri (۱۷℅) and campylobacter spp (۱۲.۳℅). No significant difference was observed in respect to sex( p<۰.۳), but most of the infection were found in infants under ۱ year old. Breast feeding appeared to have a protective effect in these infants. Antimicrobial susceptibility test showed that nalidixic acid was the most effective drug against all pathogenic bacterial isolates, whereas ampicillin and co-workers trimoxazole had very little activity.
