Prevalence of helicobacter pylori in patients undergoing upper GI endoscopy in hospital No ۱ Kerman university of medical sciences

Prevalence of helicobacter pylori was evaluated by urease test in ۵۱۳ patients undergoing GI endoscopy, in hospital No۱ Kerman university of medical sciences and health services from June ۱۹۹۲ through April ۱۹۹۳. H. Pylori was detected in ۵۶.۹℅ of tested samples by urease test. There was no significant correlation with sex, age and cigarette smoking. Prevalence of H.pylori was ۱۶℅ in control group, ۱۰℅ for esophageal varices, ۲۰℅ for gastric ulcer, ۲۲.۵۸ for prepyloric ulcer, ۶۷.۲۲℅ for cancer, ۲۹.۵۵℅ for non-ulcer dyspepsia, ۵۹.۴۲℅ for duodenitis, ۶۲.۵℅ for prepyloric ulcer, ۶۷.۲۲℅ for and duodenal ulcer groups compared to control was higher( statistically insignificant). Prevalence of H.pylori in females suffering from duodenal ulcer was also higher than males( ۹۱.۴۳℅ compared to ۷۲.۴۱℅ respectively), and this difference was statistically significant.
