Abstract:
Zeolites and zeolite-like microporous materials have been playing an ever increasing role in heterogeneous catalysis. Zeolite-type small-pore microporous silicoaluminophosphate SAPO-34 (chabazite type of structure) has been proven an excellent catalyst for the methanol to light olefins (MTO) process, showing high selectivity to light olefins. The present research deals with nanostructured SAPO-34 catalyst development for MTO reaction. A mixture template of triethylamine (TEA) and morpholine was used for synthesis of SAPO-34. Physicochemical properties of the nanostructured catalysts were identified by XRD, FESEM, and FTIR techniques. The effect of template mixture variation was estimated from the XRD spectrum and it was found that the crystallinity of nanostructured catalyst increased upon increasing the morpholine portion considering the corresponding diffraction peaks of SAPO-34. Comparison of XRD patterns implies that the peaks related to SAPO-5 phase become sharper at higher concentration of TEA. It was demonstrates that variation of particle sizes and morphology arises from various template mixtures. The nanostructured catalyst prepared with a mixture of 75% morpholine and 25% TEA showed pure phase of SAPO-34 and owned larger particles. Performance tests were carried out to investigate the influence of different temperatures on the nanostructured catalyst activity at a temperature range of 300-500°C. All samples showed similar activity and product distribution in the MTO reaction
