Abstract:
The utilization of environmentally friendly materials in the development of water-savingtechnologies like the Groasis Waterboxx (GW) presents a strong approach to mitigate thenegative impacts of the agricultural industry on the environment and society. In thisstudy, the response of poly-lactic acid (PLA) and polybutylene succinate (PBS) to heavydutyconditions was analyzed for the purpose of creating sustainable GWs. Throughsimulations using the finite element-based software Abaqus, the operation of GWs in theSahara Desert was examined, revealing a significant probability of failure in regions nearthe land surface. The analysis highlighted the impracticality of PLA in such high thermalstress areas due to the overlap between its glass transition temperature and the groundtemperature. On the other hand, PBS exhibited a noteworthy safety factor, reachingapproximately ۸۲% of that of GWs made from polypropylene (PP), despite itsbiodegradable nature.
