The modern steel wheel: an alternative to aluminum wheels to address safety, financial and environmental concerns

The Global Status of Road Safety report released by the World Health Organization in December ۲۰۱۸ shows that the annual number of road accident deaths has reached ۱.۳۵ million., which emphasizes the special importance of car safety. According to WHO reports, ۷ million people die every year due to air pollution, and cars have a significant contribution to this figure, both in terms of the vehicle's own pollution and due to the production of greenhouse gases by the car manufacturing industry. The future direction of the automotive industry should be focused on safety, affordability, fuel efficiency and environmental compatibility. Car rims play a role in ensuring safety, improving car performance, increasing beauty and even the degree of compatibility with the environment, which are produced and supplied with different materials, the most demanded types are steel and aluminum rims. Although aluminum rims are popular, they come with safety and environmental concerns and can be expensive, especially with rising global aluminum prices. There is not enough research and information about the impact of the increase in the global price of aluminum on the price of aluminum rims, as well as their environmental and safety consequences in accidents. The purpose of this article is to raise awareness among consumers and rim manufacturers about these issues and to suggest strategies for safe, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and visually appealing alternatives. Finally, it highlights the advantages of steel rims made of modern steel with high strength as a solution.
