Abstract:

The remarkable importance of electrode materials in energy, industrial processes, sustainability and diabetes monitoring has captivated scientists to improve advancenanostructured materials for the benefit of life across the globe. Glucose sensors have beenwidely developed due to their wide applications, especially in diabetes diagnosis.Electrochemical enzymatic glucose sensors are generally applied in daily life for glucosemonitoring and commercially successful as glucose-meters because they display highreliability, excellent selectivity, and can be handled under physiological pH conditions. However, because of some disadvantages of enzymes, such as high cost and poor stability,non-enzymatic glucose sensors have attracted increasing research interest in recent yearsbecause of their low high stability, cost, low detection limit, and prompt response.Additionally, the growth of nanotechnology has also presented new opportunities to designnanostructured sensors for glucose sensing applications. With distinguished advantages, metals and metals oxides have garnered broad effort in the development of cost effectiveelectrodes with high sensitivity, stability, and quick response for the detection of glucose byelectrochemical oxidation. Therefore, various non-enzymatic glucose electrodes based ondifferent metals and metals oxides such as Co۳O۴, CuO/Cu۲O, ZnO, NiO, MnO۲, etc. andtheir nanocomposites have been reported in literature.
