Abstract:

This study explores the link between Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and attachment styles in children. Children with ADHD are more likely to have insecure attachment patterns, particularly ambivalent and disorganized types, compared to typically developing children. This association seems independent of factors like parental education or oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) symptoms in the child. However, the research doesn't clarify how family dynamics or parenting styles influence attachment security in children with ADHD. While the study highlights a potential double challenge for children with ADHD, further research is needed to understand treatment implications.
