Abstract:

IoT Based Wireless Sensor Networks are applied to achieve at the information of a region including temperature, humidity, light, etc. So, region coverage is an important function considered by WSNs, as well. Clustering is an approach that can be considered as the platform of the region coverage in WSN. HEED is one of the clustering algorithms that divides the network nodes in a number of clusters. Covering all the region clusters leads to covering all over the entire region. The covering part of the network nodes may overlap which is not necessary while it is also energy consuming. The proposed algorithm of this paper, based upon the HEED clustering algorithm, tries to cover all the network regions in all over the observation times. This would be done via controlling the sleep and active modes of the network nodes. Therefore, all the points of the region would be covered by at least one sensor node while avoiding of making overlapped areas as much as possible. This strategy presents region full coverage while decreasing the energy consumption and increasing network lifetime.
