Synthesis of pyrido[۲,۳-d]pyrimidines using a new ionic liquid based on tropine as anefficient catalyst

A new ionic liquid was synthesized via a simple reaction between tropine and ۱-chlorooctane ([C۸-Tropine].Cl) and characterized by different techniques. This reagent was utilized as catalyst for the synthesis ofpyrido[۲,۳-d]pyrimidine derivatives. Use of small amounts of the catalyst and easy work-up procedure are theimportant features of this method.
