Abstract:
This study investigates the impact of head type on the stress distribution and fatigue life of pipe clips in pressure vessel applications. The analysis focuses on comparing the stress and fatigue life of pipe clips mounted on elliptical and spherical heads. ASME section VIII div ۲ standards are employed for stress assessment, with finite element analysis aiding in stress computation. Results indicate that while there are slight variations in stress distribution, the type of head exhibits negligible influence on the fatigue life of the pipe clips. Fatigue life calculations reveal comparable endurance limits for both head types, with the spherical head demonstrating a fatigue life of ۱.۱۸ e ۵ cycles and elliptical head showing a fatigue life of ۱.۰۴ e۵ cycles. these findings suggest that variations in critical points and stress concentrations contribute to minor difference in peak stress levels but do not significantly affect the fatigue life of the pipe clips.
