Abstract:

Microencapsulation of phase change materials means enclosing these materials in a solid shell. These microcapsules can be used in thermal energy storage or exchange systems. Studies have shown that replacing these materials in existing systems and related applications will bring huge economic savings in production costs and energy consumption. In this project, hexadecane (HD) has been used as the core material and the microcapsules have been obtained through dispersion polymerization of melamine formaldehyde resin (MF) as the shell material in an acidic environment at the interface of two phases. In order to study the effective factors in the formation, morphology, efficiency, and thermal properties of the prepared microcapsules, parameters such as weight ratio of core: shell, pH of the environment, stirring speed, and reaction temperature have been investigated. The effect of each of these parameters has been studied using the methods of scanning electron microscope (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and differential thermal gravimetry (TGA). Among the prepared formulations, the microcapsule with higher efficiency thermal resistance, and better morphology was selected as the optimal sample.
