Clinical Governance Implementation Challenges in Teaching Hospitals Affiliated to Yazd University of Medical Sciences, Iran, Based on the Experts' Viewpoint abstract

Introduction: Clinical governance is a framework through which health care providing organizations are mandated to respect the principles of excellence in clinical care. It helps them to answer and improve their service quality. The present study designed to reveal the challenges facing clinical governance implementation in teaching hospitals affiliated to Yazd University of Medical Sciences, Iran. Method: This was a descriptive functional study implemented in 2012. The sample study (n = 12) included administrators and staff in the hospital treatment sector of Deputy of Treatment and the teaching hospitals chosen through snowball and purposive sampling method of interview. Factors affecting clinical governance implementation selected through an open interview and their role in the clinical governance implementation analyzed through a content analysis based on a five-score likert scale. Results: The main challenges affecting the implementation of clinical governance in the scopes of risk management, clinical audit, staff training, information management, interaction with the patient and the mean score for clinical effectiveness were identified as shortage of funds (4.41), lack of fund for training clinical audit (4.66), lack of fund for staff training (4.41), insufficient expert staff (2.75), lack of financial motivation (4.16), and incomplete documentation (4.23), respectively. Discussion and Conclusion: Based on the findings of this research, the implementation of clinical domination in educational hospitals would be established via increasing the budget, training experts, holding related training courses and also improving the foundation of documentation.
