Abstract:

Introduction: Lack of satisfaction can lead to decreasing quality of services, desertion, and work absence among nursec as a major human resource of health system. Several factors are involved in this field. In current study, we reviewed the rate of nursing job satisfaction and the influencing demographic and job factors in teaching hospitals affiliated to Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, Iran. Method: In this descriptive-analytical study, ۲۵۰ nurses selected from ۱۴ departments of ۳ teaching hospitals by random sampling. Data gathered by standard WHO questionnaire included demographic data and ۳۶ questions about professional (۱۹), communication and cooperative (۹), administrative (۵), and wage and salary (۳) dimensions based on Likert scale (۱-۵). Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential (ANOVA, t, and Pearson correlation tets) statistics. Results: Generally, nurses' job satisfaction was in moderate level (۳.۱۸ ± ۰.۵۴). The mean of satisfaction was ۳.۴۲ ± ۰.۹۸ in communication and cooperative, ۳.۳۵ ± ۱.۰۸ in professional, ۲.۶۲ ± ۱.۰۹ in administrative, and ۲.۳۴ ± ۰.۹۷ in wage and salary dimentions. On demographic factors, there was no significant relationship between nurses' job satisfaction and gender (P = ۰.۸۰), age (P = ۰.۴۰), marital status (P = ۰.۵۰) and educational level (P = ۰.۵۰). In addition, on job factors, there was no significant relationship between nurses' job satisfaction and working department (P = ۰.۸۰), type of employment (P = ۰.۱۰), tenure (P = ۰.۲۰) and income (P = ۰.۵۰) but there was significant relationship between job satisfaction and various nursing positions (P = ۰.۰۲). Discussion and Conclusion: Rate of nursing job satisfaction was in moderate level. Given the low satisfaction about the management and wage and salary dimensions, hospital managers must improve management and communication methods, and optimize fair payment systems. Besides, regarding to demographic and job factors, they should evaluate the nurses' satisfaction periodically to determine the effectiveness of taken interventions.
