Abstract:
In this study, iron- modified Mobil catalytic material no 41 whit Si/Fe=120 (Fe(120)-MCM-41) sorbent was used to investigate the removal of Cd(2+) in the concentration range of 10-40 (mgL(-1)). The batch kinetic and equilibrium experiments were conducted to study the effects of pH, contact time, adsorbent dose, initial concentration of cadmium. The optimum pH, contact time, adsorbent dose for sorption of Cd (II) was obtained 7.39, 30 min, and 0.03 g respectively. The adsorption kinetics well fitted using a pseudo second-order kinetic model. Four adsorption isotherm models namely, Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich were used to analyses the equilibrium data. The adsorption isotherm data could be well described by the Langmuir equation (R(2)=0.98). The maximum capacity was fund to be 41.67mgg-1. A recovery of 100% was obtained for Cd(II), with 0.5 M HNO(3) as eluting agent. The effect of foreign ions (Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Pb(2+), Zn(2+)) was examined. The results suggest that Fe(120)-MCM-41 could be employed as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of cadmium from contaminated water sources.
