Abstract:

This study investigates the feasibility of extracting platinum from a deep eutectic solvent (DES) basedon choline chloride and ethylene glycol using an organic solvent extraction process with tri-octylamine (TOA) asthe extractant and kerosene as the diluent. The initial platinum concentration in the DES was ۲۱۷ ppm. Threeexperiments were conducted to evaluate the impact of various process parameters on the platinum extractionefficiency. The results showed that the highest platinum recovery of ۹۸.۰۲% was achieved in the thirdexperiment, where the TOA concentration in the organic phase was ۱۰%, the water-to-organic ratio was ۱:۱, thecontact time was ۵ minutes, and the temperature was ۴۵°C. the kinetics of the extraction process were foundto be remarkably fast, with more than ۷۷% of the platinum being recovered within the first ۵ minutes. The highextraction recoveries, even at the lower TOA concentrations, indicate the potential for process optimization tofurther improve the extraction efficiency and reduce operating costs. The findings highlight the promise of thisapproach for the selective separation and purification of platinum from complex matrices, with potentialapplications in the processing of petrochemical catalysts and the recovery of valuable metals from wastestreams.
