Abstract:

Hydrogen transport is one of the major problems of using it as a clean energy source. In this paperhydro-closo-borate based hydrogen carriers, HBHCs, have been introduced as providing solid and stablehydrogen storage systems. The hydro-closo-borate cation, is used as a stabilizing agent for hydrogen-richcompounds such as ammonia. By using these compounds, it is possible to transfer hydrogen without very lowtemperatures and high pressures. The (NH۴)X[B۱۲H۱۲], X = Cl, Br, I, compounds have been synthesized byreplacing cesium cation from Cs۲ [B۱۲H۱۲] by passed through a cation exchange column to yield the acidic formof the dodecahydro-closo-dodecaborate, (H۳O)۲ [B۱۲H۱۲]. This aqueous solution was subsequently neutralizedwith ammonium hydroxide and mixed with the corresponding water-dissolved ammonium nitrate. Hydrogenrelease of as prepare compounds have been studied by gas chromatography as well as volumetric conventionalmethods.
