Abstract:

Currently, the frequency of seismic events is on the rise, leading to an increase in thenumber of structures collapsing or sustaining damage. To mitigate the impact ofearthquakes on buildings, the base isolation system has become widely accepted andimplemented globally. This paper conducts a comprehensive review of various baseisolation techniques that are utilized. It examines different types of isolating bearingsand materials used in these systems. The review covers the application of isolationsystems in regular and irregularly planned reinforced concrete buildings, as well asbridges. Additionally, it explores the impact of base isolation systems on historicalstructures. The review also delves into the advantages and disadvantages of differentisolating bearings, including their susceptibility to temperature variations
