Abstract:
This paper is concerned with the analysis of Roger; one of the characters in the William Golding Novel-Lord of the Flies-in this novel there are some characters and the personality of Roger is related to the others and represents brutality and bloodlust at their most extreme and also is totally that kid on the playground who used to torture ants with a magnifying glass. Symbolism in this novel is so important for example we have shells, fire, shelter, etc. and each of them stand for one or two symbols. An important theme in William Golding's novel Lord of the Flies is social power relation. This power relation is everywhere on the island, and are shown at different levels throughout the novel. These power relation center on two different power systems, a democratic system and a dictatorial system. In this analysis we show how Roger changes through the novel and become one of the dictatorial people. Also, we consider other comments about this person. Lord of the Flies is an allegorical novel, and many of its characters signify important ideas or themes. Ralph represents order, leadership, and civilization. Piggy represents the scientific and intellectual aspects of civilization. Jack represents unbridled savagery and the desire for power. Simon represents natural human goodness. To the extent that the boys' society resembles a political state, the littluns might be seen as the common people, while the older boys represent the ruling classes and political leaders.
