Abstract:
This study examined the effect of decision-making task in reading comprehension and incidental vocabulary learning of Iranian EFL learners at advanced level. The researcher applied a convenience sampling procedure and selected ۶۰ learners and divided them in two groups of experimental and control group. Experimental received decision-making tasks during the process of reading comprehension but control group was taught reading traditionally. The effect of decision-making tasks on reading and incidental vocabulary learning was examined by administering pre-test and post-test of reading and vocabulary. Findings showed that experimental group that received decision-making tasks gained higher scores in their reading and vocabulary post-test. Therefore, employing decision-making tasks improved learning English vocabulary incidentally and improved reading comprehension. On the contrary, control group that was taught traditionally did not have any progress in their post-test of reading and incidental vocabulary learning.
