Examining the relationship between job burnout and job satisfaction among nursing staff in hospitals of Ahwaz Jundishapur university

Abstract:

Background: Job burnout is a psychological disorder that occurs under the influence of severe job stress. Job satisfaction is a level of positive feelings and attitudes that people have towards their jobs. This syndrome can influence job functions such as job quality, general health and job satisfaction. Objective: In the current research, relationship between job burnout and job satisfaction was studied among nurses in hospitals of Ahwaz Jundishapur university.Methods: In a sectional analytical – descriptive research, ۱۵۰ employess of this profession were evaluated. The data collection tool, was a multi – part questionnaire including demographic specification, job satisfaction questionnaire and Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) for evaluating the job burnout Level in three dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and lack of Individual success. Data after collection were analyzed by descriptive statistics indicators including frequency, average, standard deviation and inferential statistics ways including chi- square test , T-test, one-way Anova test and Pearson correlation at the significant level of( P< ۰/۰۵) with the help of spss software.Results: The total amount of job burnout in the case study was reported ۱۱/۳% at high level, in the depersonalization dimension , ۶۲% at high level In the emotional exhausion dimension and ۳۵/۳% at high level in the reduced personal development dimension. Also , ۳۸% of nurses had low job satisfaction, ۶۰.۷% had average job satisfaction, and ۱.۳% had high job satisfaction. There was a significant and reverse relationship between the dimension of depersonalization and job satisfaction with (p=۰.۰۰) and between the dimension of emotional exhaustion and job satisfaction with (p=۰.۰۰) and between the dimension of personal development and job satisfaction. No relationship was observed with (p = ۰.۲۵).Conclusion: The findings of the research showed that there is a significant amount of job burnout in the studied sample, which is aggravated by demographic variables and causes a decrease in the level of job satisfaction. It is suggested to conduct interventional research to reduce the level of job burnout and increase the level of job satisfaction of nurses.
