Abstract:

Aim: This research aims to discover how augmented reality (AR) media and Animaker affect non-ulcer foot care behavior among people with type ۲ diabetes mellitus, specifically in relation to foot care education. Design and methods: A pretest-posttest control group design was employed in this quasi-experiment. The study population consisted of individuals with type ۲ diabetes mellitus. A total of ۱۳۲ participants were included, divided into three groups: the treatment group (AR+Animaker), positive control group ۱ (AR), and positive control group ۲ (Animaker). Purposive sampling was used to select ۴۴ respondents for each group between January and June ۲۰۲۳. Data were analyzed using observation sheets and questionnaires, with a significance level of ≤۰.۰۵. Analysis methods included the Wilcoxon signed rank test and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: Findings from the knowledge analysis showed significance for the treatment group (p=۰.۰۰۵), positive control group ۱ (p=۰.۰۱۱), and positive control group ۲ (p=۰.۰۹۷). Attitude analysis revealed significance across all groups (p=۰.۰۰۵). Analysis of behavior showed significance for the treatment group (p=۰.۰۰۵), positive control group ۱ (p=۰.۰۰۶), and positive control group ۲ (p=۰.۰۱۱). Disparities were found in the effectiveness of enhancing knowledge (p=۰.۰۴۷), attitudes (p=۰.۰۲۲), and behaviors (p=۰.۰۳۷) among the combined media of AR+Animaker, AR, and Animaker. Conclusion: Foot care education using AR+Animaker, AR, and Animaker can effectively modify behavior to prevent ulcer complications. However, Animaker alone did not affect knowledge. Therefore, nurses can choose any of these media options to enhance their impact when educating individuals with type ۲ diabetes mellitus about their health.
