Abstract:
The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has necessitated the development of optimized vehicle routing strategies to minimize environmental impact. Building on the existing framework for the Electric Vehicle Routing Problem (E-VRP) that considers the state of charge (SoC) of batteries, this study introduces a novel approach incorporating variable electricity costs at charging stations and diverse types of charging infrastructure. By factoring in the differences in electricity sourcing, we account for the varying carbon emissions associated with electricity generation. Our model evaluates the impact of these variations on the overall routing efficiency and environmental footprint of EV operations. We propose formulation that considers partial battery recharging, aiming to minimize battery degradation through controlled charge cycles. Computational experiments on structured instances demonstrate the efficacy of our approach in reducing both operational costs and carbon emissions, providing a more comprehensive solution to the sustainable routing of electric vehicles.
