Abstract:

This article explores the critical role of Knowledge Management (KM) and Information Technology (IT) in enhancing project risk management. As projects become increasingly complex, effective risk management is essential to avoid delays, budget overruns, and compromised outcomes. KM involves the systematic process of capturing, sharing, and utilizing knowledge to improve decision-making and mitigate risks. IT supports KM by providing the necessary tools, platforms, and analytics to manage risk-related knowledge effectively. The synergy between KM and IT enables organizations to identify potential risks early, make informed decisions, and respond proactively to challenges. This paper examines how KM facilitates the capture and dissemination of lessons learned, fosters a culture of continuous improvement, and enhances risk communication. It also highlights the role of IT in enabling KM through technologies such as Knowledge Management Systems, decision support systems, data analytics, and AI-powered tools. Despite challenges such as resistance to change, data quality issues, and implementation costs, integrating KM and IT into project risk management offers significant benefits, including improved decision-making, increased efficiency, and enhanced collaboration. As the demand for efficient risk management grows, organizations that leverage KM and IT will be better equipped to navigate uncertainties and achieve successful project outcomes. This integration not only transforms the approach to managing risks but also sets a foundation for innovation and resilience in project management.
