Abstract:

الکساندر راسل وب، مستشرق مسلمان آمریکایی است که علاوه بر مطالعات آکادمیک در باب اسلام، دل در گرو این آیین نیز داشت و در اثر همدلی هایی که با اسلام داشت، آثار او از رنگ و بوی خاصی برخوردار است. علاوه بر این، وب را باید نویسنده ای سرشناس و مبلغ اسلام در ایالات متحده آمریکا به شمار آورد که موفق شد با استفاده از نفوذ فرهنگی خود و هم زمان نفوذ سیاسی که به عنوان سفیر آمریکا در فیلیپین داشت، در رواج و پاگیری اسلام در ایالات متحده آمریکا و شتاب مطالعات اسلامی در این کشور، نقشی مهم ایفا کند. در این مقاله، پس از معرفی شخصیت علمی و فرهنگی وب، به بررسی آثار او در زمینه اسلام، تمدن اسلامی و جهان اسلام خواهیم پرداخت و کوشش خواهیم کرد نگاه همدلانه او را نسبت به اسلام ردیابی و بازنمایی کنیم.
