Abstract:

Investigating the seismic response of the ground surface and its impact on structures due to topographic effects and soil-structure interaction (TSSI) is highly important. Factors influencing seismic response, including geometric characteristics of the ground surface topography, double the significance of examining this matter. Regulations pertaining to this issue have considered parameters such as slope height to some extent. In this study, the seismic response of a five-story concrete building at a distance of ۵ meters from the slope crown was investigated using ۳D numerical analysis. Elastic behavior and HSS model were employed for the building and soil, respectively. The studies were conducted using the Loma Prieta (۱۹۸۹) earthquake. According to the TSSI analysis results, the seismic response of buildings located at higher slope heights is more influenced by slope topography. The amplification values of horizontal acceleration in the TSSI mode for slope heights of ۳۰, ۵۰, and ۱۰۰ meters are ۱.۲, ۱.۱, and ۱.۳ times, respectively, compared to the SSI mode. Based on the conducted investigations, the maximum acceleration values at slope heights of ۳۰, ۵۰, and ۱۰۰ meters are ۴.۳۷, ۴.۱, and ۴.۲۲ (m/s۲), respectively.
