Abstract:

Forgiveness is the intentional, voluntary process of letting go of feelings of anger and resentment towards a wrongdoing, and replacing them with warm and affectionate behavior towards the offender. Superficial trust is the confidence that an individual has in their relationship with another person, based on the expectation that the other person will exhibit fair, ethical, and predictable behavior. The present study examines the role of altruism in rebuilding trust in romantic relationships among young people. This research is a correlational survey study, involving students from Azad University in Hamedan. A total of ۱۰۱ participants, including ۶۲ females and ۳۹ males, were randomly and cluster-sampled. The study employed questionnaires on altruistic personality and trust in interpersonal relationships. After analyzing the data using R software and independent t-tests, the results indicated that showing forgiveness, as well as experiencing forgiveness, are related to strengthening trust in romantic relationships among young people. Furthermore, a significant relationship was found between experiencing forgiveness and altruism towards strangers in unfamiliar situations, and having greater trust and security in romantic relationships among young people.
