Abstract:

One of the objectives of modern research in the field of polymer coatings is to increase their thermalresistance. Today, it has been proven that the use of minerals is absolutely necessary to increase thethermal resistance to the flame. The purpose of this article is to investigate the role of barium sulfatecontent on the flame retardancy of Novolac epoxy resin. In this research, to evaluate the flameresistance, polymer coatings with different percentages of epoxy novolac resin and barium sulfate(novalac epoxy/ BaSO۴: ۱۰۰/۰, ۹۰/۱۰, ۸۰/۲۰, ۷۰/۳۰, ۶۰/۴۰ and ۵۰/۵۰ wt%) were investigated. Theresults of the flame test show that by increasing the amount of barium sulfate by ۱۰% by weight, thechanges in the burn radius are very intense, but at higher weight percentages, the changes in the burnradius are slower and happen in a non-linear manner, as the sample made with ۴۰% by weight ofbarium sulfate It has the lowest burn radius and the highest thermal resistance as an optimal sample.
