Abstract:

The inelastic behavior of the backfill soil is one of the most important aspects in the seismicperformance of bridges, and it has the potential to significantly impact their seismic responses. In thispaper a multi-span continuous concrete I-girder bridge isolated with lead rubber bearings (LRBs) hasbeen investigated with/without considering soil-structure interaction (SSI) at the abutments. Anonlinear time history analysis (NLTHA) under near-field earthquake records of FEMA P۶۹۵ wasconducted to evaluate the responses. It's demonstrated that considering SSI effects could potentiallyincrease the risk of the deck unseating and also increases the strain of isolators located at the bent
