Abstract:
Discriminating reservoir sand quality using prestack seismic gathers is a critical aspect of modern reservoir characterization and exploration. High-quality reservoir sands are essential for maximizing hydrocarbon recovery and ensuring accurate assessment of a reservoir’s economic potential. By leveraging prestack seismic data, it is possible to extract valuable information that traditional poststack analysis may overlook, enabling more precise interpretation of subsurface features. The aim of this paper is to use high-resolution prestack inversion attribute to estimate the sand quality of the Asmari reservoir. The Poisson dampening factor attribute leverage both P-wave and S-wave information, allowing for more accurate results. The results indicate that this method elucidates the trajectory of two sand types within the area of interest. Both high- and low-quality sands are laterally continuous in the zone of interest. The results also suggest that the PDF attribute is significantly influenced by hydrocarbon presence, as it markedly increases in the area of interest while diminishing in the low-quality thin sand layer. This approach could be useful in cases of highly demanded seismic petrophysical parameters, particularly in areas without well control.
