Abstract:

In this paper a low-power low-voltage very high-CMRR CMOS current mode instrumentation amplifier (CMIA) is proposed. We introduce a new building block, named Bulk Driven Differential Voltage second generation Current Conveyor (BDDVCCII), and design an improved current mode instrumentation amplifier (CMIA) based on it. The circuit is designed in 0.18um CMOS process and we optimize it using Genetic algorithm (GA). The DVCC introduced in this paper is the first proposed bulk driven DVCC in literature that causes low-power (just 191uW) and low-voltage (just ±0.6V) performance compared to other topologies. Beside, using bulk as input terminals causes high input common mode range (nearly rail to rail). In the proposed circuit, CMRR which is most important property of instrumentation amplifiers, is much more than most value that have been already reported (> 220dB in proposed topology). This is because of particular structure of it's input stage. All of the acclaimed properties are proved through the HSpice simulations. Simulation results demonstrate high performance of the circuit and confirm the validity of the proposed design technique.
