Abstract:
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a usual endocrine disorder that impacts women of reproductive age worldwide. It is determined by abnormalities of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis, ovarian abnormalities, and PCOS ovarian cysts. Additionally, PCOS is associated with various metabolic abnormalities, such as insulin resistance, which led to an increase in the risk of type ۲ diabetes and cardiovascular disorders. Therefore, there is an urgent need for new and effective treatments for this problem. Nanotechnology is one of the new drug delivery systems that play a vital role in the management of PCOS treatment. Based on previous studies, nanotechnology can influence the diagnosis and therapy of PCOS by increasing the efficacy of drugs. Furthermore, it can noticeably improve the compliance of patients by reducing the adverse effects of traditional drug delivery systems. In recent years, nanotechnology has become an important part of the pharmaceutical industry, saving as a suitable solution for various treatment approaches, such as targeted drug delivery systems, and it has also ameliorated the consequences of PCOS treatment. In this review, we discuss the benefits and effects of various types of nanotechnology systems, such as nanoparticles and green nanotechnology, which can enhance the bioavailability of drugs by upgrading the physicochemical properties of agents.
