Abstract:

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) is a vital technique employed by contemporary information services to tailor information to client needs, enhancing the effective utilization of resources in libraries and information centers. As universities and educational institutions strive for specialization in their information provision, SDI services have become increasingly essential for meeting the diverse requirements of their user communities. This article presents a systematic review aimed at identifying the key features of web-based SDI systems in developing nations. To ensure relevance, our inclusion criteria specified that only original articles published in English in peer-reviewed journals were considered; thus, reports, letters to the editor, review articles, and meta-analyses were excluded. We focused on studies that specifically developed and analyzed SDI systems, excluding those addressing non-selective dissemination designs. Our comprehensive search encompassed multiple databases, including Clarivate’s ISI Web of Science, Scopus, ACM Digital Library, OpenGrey, IEEE Xplore, and Business Source Premier, up until March ۲۰۲۳. A total of ۵۹ studies met the inclusion criteria. Among these, ۱۷ articles emphasized the significance of personalized information delivery tailored to individual needs, preferences, and interests. Additionally, ۲۵ studies highlighted the specific challenges and limitations faced in developing regions. Furthermore, ۱۷ articles discussed the key features of web-based SDI systems relevant to these contexts. This systematic examination elucidates the potential benefits and challenges associated with personalized information dissemination. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of recent techniques in the field and underscore the importance of designing information systems that align with user interests.
