Abstract:
This study investigates recent advancements in the relationship between various thermodynamic cycles, such as Rankine, Brayton, and others, and their corresponding input sources, including solar, geothermal, wind, and other forms of energy for power generation and freshwater production. This review scrutinizes the environmental impacts, energy efficiency, and exergy efficiency of these systems. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent research, including single-objective and multi-objective optimization algorithms for energy systems. These optimizations, achieved by integrating specific cycles with compatible energy sources, aim to promote sustainable development, reduce energy losses, and minimize greenhouse gas emissions. The results indicate that the Rankine cycle is the most widely used thermodynamic cycle, applied in ۴۱% of studied systems, while solar energy dominates as the input source, powering ۶۴% of these systems.
