Securi ty Challenges and Solutions in RFID Systems

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is widely used in various identification and authentication applications. While RFID systems offer valuable services to users, they also pose potential risks to their privacy and security. Numerous authentication schemes have been introduced in the literature to enhance RFID security and safeguard user privacy. This study examines a recently proposed RFID authentication protocol and identifies its vulnerabilities to several security and privacy attacks. Firstly, we introduce a method for tracking a tag through a replay attack, allowing an adversary to trace any tag. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the protocol does not ensure reader confidentiality and is susceptible to data integrity attacks, leading to potential message modification and unauthorized reader control. To address these weaknesses, we present an improved version of the protocol, offering a more secure authentication scheme.
