Abstract:

This research introduces the historical and sacred buildings, bazaars, schools, and prominent landmarks in three significant historical neighborhoods of Isfahan (Shahshahan, Sonbolestan, and Sarcheshmeh) and traces the evolution of these centers from the Timurid to the Qajar periods. The findings indicate that each of these neighborhoods, while preserving its original identity, experienced significant physical and functional transformations. Shahshahan, as an educational-religious hub, Sonbolestan, as an economic pole, and Sarcheshmeh, as a center for interaction with nature, each present a unique pattern of the continuity of urban life in historical Isfahan. A comparative study of these three neighborhoods demonstrates the continuity of urban life and the functional adaptability of religious-educational buildings over centuries.
