Abstract:
This study investigates the impact of brain-based learning (BBL) strategies on the retention of English vocabulary among Iranian EFL learners. Brain-based learning draws upon neuroscience principles, focusing on how the brain naturally learns best. The experimental research involved ۴۰ intermediate EFL students divided into control and experimental groups. Over six weeks, the experimental group was taught using BBL techniques including mind mapping, chunking, visual imagery, and spaced repetition, while the control group received traditional vocabulary instruction. Vocabulary retention was assessed using pre-tests, post-tests, and delayed post-tests. The findings showed a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group's performance, suggesting BBL strategies enhance vocabulary retention and offer valuable pedagogical implications.
