Abstract:
Building pounding occurs between two adjacent buildings, when these built with small gap or without sufficient separation distance. It causes to damage buildings during earthquake due to impact. Many researchers have investigated building pounding based on impact force reduction and energy dissipation increase, when two buildings collide with each other. In numerical investigations, using specific link element, impact force calculates to get the proper evaluation of damage for preventing failure of structural elements. In this paper, focused on numerical investigation, the effectiveness of impact and energy dissipation is investigated. For this challenge, two reinforced concrete ۵-story and three stories buildings are modeled to evaluate the building pounding, calculate the impact force and finally, compare the effectiveness of base isolation support against fix support. To investigate the building pounding, a link element is located at the connection level between two studied dynamic models. Moreover, a new link element has been suggested to calculate the impact force and energy dissipation based on hysteresis behavior.
