Abstract:
The paradigmatic transition to posthuman-centered architecture and the emergence of technologies such as the Smart Home have created a serious dialectic and challenge between the coexistence of technology and fundamental human values. This situation, exacerbated by phenomena like surveillance capitalism and the erosion of human agency, necessitates a profound ethical reassessment. This research aims to analyze the dialectic of technology-dignity coexistence in posthuman-centered architecture in light of Islamic wisdom. It critiques the ontological foundations of posthumanism, comparing it with the Islamic concept of intrinsic dignity (al-Karāmah) to provide a framework for the ethical governance of technology. This study is a foundational-theoretical and qualitative investigation employing a descriptive-analytical and comparative approach. The research population comprises theoretical texts and literature in three domains: posthumanist philosophy, Smart Home technologies (IoT), and the metaphysical and ethical foundations of Islamic wisdom (dignity and privacy). Data were collected through doctrinal analysis and a systematic review of texts. The validity of the analyses was based on philosophical reasoning and a comparative analysis between relational posthumanist ontology and essentialist Islamic ontology. The data analysis process utilized dialectical critique and conceptual synthesis; the phenomenology of the Smart Home (with a Heideggerian approach) was compared with the Islamic concept of Bayt (sanctuary). The results indicate that posthumanist ontology, which reduces humans to a node in a network, is in fundamental conflict with the metaphysical principle of intrinsic dignity (al-Karāmah) in Islam. Furthermore, the pervasive surveillance in the Smart Home violates the Islamic principle of the sanctity of privacy (prohibition of tajassus/spying). Ultimately, the research proposes a dignity-centered design framework based on Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah as a hybrid solution to guide technology in service of human transcendence.
