Abstract:

The oil and gas industry plays a significant role in global CO۲ emissions, contributing to climate change and environmental degradation. In this manuscript, our objective is to conduct a quantitative analysis of the CO۲ equivalents of various fuels used in the industry and explore the CO۲ aspects from a technical perspective. By gaining a better understanding of the CO۲ footprint of different fuels and technologies in the oil and gas sector, we can pinpoint opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lessening the industry's impact on the environment. The combustion of fossil fuels, particularly in the oil and gas industry, is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, specifically carbon dioxide (CO۲). To effectively address and mitigate these emissions, it is essential to quantify the CO۲ equivalents of different fuels and thoroughly analyze the CO۲ aspects within the oil and gas industry. This comprehensive review offers an overview of the methods used to quantify CO۲ equivalents of fuels, as well as an in-depth analysis of the CO۲ aspects in the oil and gas industry, encompassing extraction, refining, transportation, and consumption. Additionally, the review sheds light on current trends and initiatives aimed at reducing CO۲ emissions in the industry.
