Abstract:

Recent advancements in technology have improved the smart well development by integrating the real-time data acquisition and the control systems. The design and operation of conventional well systems often suffer from suboptimal performance and cost inefficiencies. This research will incorporate different flow regimes, water saturation control mechanism, and intelligent algorithm to optimize oil wells performance using advanced computational techniques code by matlab software and PID control system. In an oil field containing production and injection wells, spaced apart by a distance, a water injection scenario will be carried out to inspect and regulate water production by means of an automatic PID system from an ICV or AICD valve installed in the production wells. The study objectives are to develop a smart wells model capable of controlling flow regimes and managing produced water saturation in wells production and evaluate the profit of implementing well intelligent technologies in terms of production efficiency and cost reduction. Investigating the parameters effect such pressure, temperature, GOR, flowrate and water breakthrough on the smart well technologies, and the comparison of the control system used with other control methods such as PI and PD systems will help to assess the model accuracy. The results showed best production performance compared with conventional wells and other control system methods such as PI or PD.
