Abstract:
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is one of the most complex psychological disorders, characterized by emotional instability, impulsive behaviors, and severe interpersonal difficulties. The present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of schema therapy on quality of life and interpersonal relationships among patients diagnosed with BPD. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest and a control group. The statistical population included patients with BPD who referred to psychotherapy centers in Tehran. A purposive sampling method was used to select ۳۰ participants. Data collection instruments included standardized questionnaires measuring quality of life and interpersonal relationship skills. The findings indicated that schema therapy significantly improved patients’ quality of life and enhanced their interpersonal skills. Moreover, reductions in emotional instability and impulsive behaviors were observed as secondary outcomes. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of schema therapy in alleviating psychological and social difficulties in individuals with BPD. Therefore, schema therapy can be considered an effective clinical intervention in therapeutic and rehabilitation programs. Overall, this study suggests that schema therapy not only contributes to symptom reduction but also enhances quality of life and interpersonal functioning, playing a crucial role in improving the psychological and social well-being of these patients.
