Abstract:

Suicide, the act of intentionally causing one's own death, is a global social problem that threatens the security of individuals and governments. Recent research findings show that self-harming behaviors in the form of suicide, suicidal thoughts, and suicide attempts are increasing among children and adolescents. Ending one's life is an ineffective way to escape from unbearable suffering. Someone who has thoughts of ending their life cannot find any way to find relief except by ending their life. However, despite the desire to end the existing pain, most of these people are deeply conflicted about ending their life. They wish to find an alternative, but cannot see it. Suicide prevention includes all the actions and efforts by organizations, governments, mental health centers, unions, professionals, citizens, and various individuals to reduce the suicide rate. Suicide prevention strategies include: treating mental symptoms and depressive problems, especially in the psychological and psychosomatic areas, strengthening crisis coping skills in people who are severely involved in suicidal thoughts, and reducing factors that can trigger suicidal thoughts in individuals. We should all strive to strengthen social and emotional supports that have a protective role against suicide, while limiting access to tools that can increase the risk of suicide. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in ۱۵-۲۹ year olds worldwide and is always a major public health concern. Suicide prevention is an integral part of the first World Health Organization (WHO) mental health program in ۲۰۱۳, which aimed to reduce suicide rates in countries by ۱۰% by ۲۰۲۰. The aim of this study is to conduct a narrative review of the identification of risk factors for suicide in adolescents around the world.
