Light in a Valley of Fear and Despair

The phenomenon of suicide is one of the most complex social, psychological and philosophical issues that has attracted the attention of philosophers, doctors, psychologists and sociologists for centuries. Suicide means intentionally harming oneself and consciously ending one's life. This behavior often occurs as a result of severe psychological stress, unresolved problems, feelings of hopelessness or mental disorders. Research shows that a large proportion of suicidal thoughts are transient and treatable, and people can change the course of their lives by taking advantage of specialized medical and psychological services as well as social support.
