Abstract:
This study investigates the pivotal role and inherent significance of the ecological city paradigm in bolstering urban resilience against the escalating threats of water crises and climate-induced hazards. Recognizing the intensifying environmental and climatic exigencies confronting urban environments globally, the imperative for adopting transformative strategies in urban design and governance has become unequivocally apparent. Employing a convergent mixed-methods approach, predicated on a systematic and critical review of extant literature alongside an incisive analysis of international best-practice case studies, this research critically examines the fundamental principles, core components, and operational mechanisms underpinning ecological cities. The findings robustly indicate that the judicious implementation of ecological city principles-encompassing integrated water resource management, strategically deployed green infrastructure, biophilic urban design, and decentralized renewable energy systems-can demonstrably augment urban resilience capacities. Furthermore, the results underscore that successful operationalization necessitates robust cross-sectoral coordination, meaningful stakeholder engagement, transformative policy innovation, and the establishment of efficacious regulatory frameworks. By articulating a comprehensive framework for transitioning urban centers towards an ecological model, this article proffers pragmatic and evidence-based solutions to proactively address the intertwined challenges of water scarcity and climate hazards.
