Abstract:

This study presents the design and implementation of an adaptive rehabilitation system that regulates the speed of a Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) device using electromyography (EMG) signals. The proposed method continuously monitors muscle activity around the knee joint to identify contraction levels associated with pain perception. Real-time EMG signal processing enables the device to automatically adjust actuator speed, thereby minimizing discomfort while ensuring uninterrupted rehabilitation sessions. Experimental results demonstrate that the system effectively adapts device motion to the patient’s physiological state, offering enhanced comfort, safety, and personalization. By integrating patient-specific feedback into the control loop, the approach provides a reliable framework for intelligent rehabilitation, contributing to improved therapeutic outcomes and patient compliance.
