Abstract:
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) remains one of the leading causes of maternal mortality worldwide. The midwife plays a vital role in early detection, prevention, and timely intervention to reduce adverse outcomes. In recent years, the focus of maternal care has shifted from reactive treatment to proactive prevention and evidence-based management, emphasizing the crucial contribution of midwives. This study aimed to systematically review the latest scientific evidence on innovative midwifery approaches for the prevention and control of postpartum hemorrhage.
Methods: A systematic review was conducted through a comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and SID databases using the keywords postpartum hemorrhage, midwifery care, prevention, and maternal safety for studies published between ۲۰۱۵ and ۲۰۲۵. After screening and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, ۳۰ eligible articles were analyzed.
Results: Findings revealed that evidence-based education, accurate risk assessment during the antenatal period, active management of the third stage of labor, and the use of standardized clinical checklists were among the most effective midwifery strategies for reducing the incidence and severity of postpartum hemorrhage. Recent studies also highlighted the role of digital technologies in maternal monitoring and rapid decision-making during obstetric emergencies.
Conclusion:
Integrating professional midwifery knowledge with innovative evidence-based approaches can significantly improve maternal safety and reduce mortality related to postpartum hemorrhage. Strengthening clinical education, implementing standardized protocols, and providing organizational support for midwives are key strategies to enhance maternal outcomes in high-risk situations
