Abstract:
This paper examines the domestic political dynamics surrounding France's decision to recognize the State of Palestine and assesses the extent to which interest groups-particularly organizations representing the Jewish community in France-exerted influence on policy framing and timing. The research question asks to what degree informal actors and political cleavages contributed to diplomatic choices and whether those dynamics contributed to a subsequent cabinet crisis. Using a mixed-method approach-content analysis of major French, British and American press coverage, scrutiny of parliamentary debates, and a discourse-centered review of social media statements by key actors-this paper argues that while there is no conclusive evidence that Jewish representative bodies directly engineered governmental collapse, they contributed to shaping elite discourse and constraining political options. The study concludes by situating these findings within broader literatures on lobbying, symbolic politics, and the interplay between domestic politics and foreign policy.
