Abstract:
For a long time, sport science and exercise physiology have used the null hypothesis of no change to help them choose experimental interventions. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the statistical methodologies currently utilized by sport scientists and exercise physiologists in the design and analysis of experimental treatments. We also stress how important it is to include equivalence and non-inferiority studies, which look at various research objectives than just figuring out if an impact occurs. First, we give a brief review of the most common ways to look at the effects of different interventions and explain why each one is useful. Then, we go over the major steps for developing and analyzing equivalence and non-inferiority studies, which are often done in other fields of study. We accomplish this by utilizing examples from exercise physiology and sports science. Finally, we provide recommendations for sport scientists and exercise physiologists interested in employing diverse techniques in subsequent research. We think this work will encourage the right use of equivalence and non-inferiority designs in exercise physiology and sport science, where the research environment, conditions, applications, researchers' interests, or reasonable opinions call for it.
